Within a series of lectures and activities of the National Archives in the Month of Reading, the Emirates Library in the Archives organized two virtual lectures, the first entitled: “The Emirates Library: Habitat for Thirsty Knowledge”, and the second: “The Electronic Index of the Emirates Library”.

The two lectures aimed to strengthen the ties between the Emirates Library and readers, facilitate their access to its holdings, and benefit from the resources of the model library specializing in the history of the Emirates and the Arabian Peninsula, which feed into the goals of the archive that documents the memory of the homeland for generations.

During the first lecture, the head of the Emirates Library Department at the National Archives, Sharifa Al Fahim, said that the slogan of the month of reading in this year, “My family reads,” emphasizes the role of reading in building people in all stages of life, noting that the Emirates Library, as it celebrates this month, works hard In order to bring readers and researchers closer to its holdings.

Al Fahim reviewed the history of the Emirates Library, which was established in 1968, the same year that witnessed the establishment of the National Archives under the directives of the late founder Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul. And the provision of a model hall for reading with international specifications, with an open shelving system, allowing its users all office services and facilities.

She drew attention to the library's holdings, which include thousands of distinguished printed and electronic resources, university references and dissertations, rare books, Arab and foreign periodicals, and it contains a wealth of specialized books that deal with several aspects in the Emirates, and topics related to the countries of the Cooperation Council.

While Omar Hammadneh, during the second lecture, touched on the electronic index of the Emirates Library, and the methods of searching in it, indicating that researchers can access the library index on the National Archives website and submit their requests electronically.
