About twenty independent theaters across France are showing films for free this weekend, in the form of test screenings, and with a limited audience rating.

A symbolic initiative, in the wake of the Caesar ceremony, in favor of the reopening of cinemas.

REPORT

The world of cinema continues to demand the reopening of theaters.

We could measure his impatience on Friday evening at the 46th Caesar ceremony, by the number of times Roselyne Bachelot, the Minister of Culture, was arrested.

In parallel with this ceremony, and in the form of symbolic action, around twenty independent cinemas in France have planned to broadcast films this weekend despite the health restrictions linked to Covid-19, but with a very small gauge.

No popcorn, free entry and no more than 40% occupancy, above all, the public is asked to contribute with a questionnaire on the film to be handed in at the end of the screening.

In form, it is nothing more or less than a test projection.

It is through this that the Lux cinema in Caen obtained authorization to reopen.

And without too much surprise, for the first session on Saturday, it was sold out.

"I love going to the cinema, it seemed essential to me to take advantage of this opportunity", confides a spectator at the exit.

, is a Franco-Armenian film, initially scheduled for November 2020, and never released due to the health crisis.

All these delays are seriously starting to worry the director of the cinema, Gautier Labrusse: "Since March 2020, all cinemas have fully played the game, and at the same time new broadcasting habits are being created on online platforms, which are taking advantage of the period. . There is a real risk for the cinema industry ", he explains to Europe 1.

The LUX cinema is planning other actions.

For example projections on the facades of buildings after the curfew, to allow the inhabitants of Caen to discover short films from their balcony.
