It is not always easy to choose the right essential oils to heal yourself.

Everyone knows essential oils and their benefits, but few are able to use them.

Between restrictions for certain people, dangers or on the contrary well-being, the doctor of pharmacy Françoise Couic-Marinier, specialized in aromatherapy, publishes the book

Some advice before use 

Aromatherapy is the care that we can bring to ourselves with essential oils.

These are full of properties that soothe motivate or help daily in hospitals.

But before using them, you have to know where you are going.

Essential oils are therefore strongly discouraged, without medical advice, for epileptics, asthmatics and children under six years old.

They should also be used with care for pregnant or breastfeeding women.

If you can use them, you still have to do it with caution.

Françoise Couic-Marinier advises to buy organic essential oils and, when using some of them, not to expose yourself to the sun.

Finally, essential oils can be taken orally in capsule form, rectally with suppositories, but also by inhalation, diffusion or massage.

To find out the method of admission that suits you best, it is preferable according to this aromatherapy specialist to consult a trained doctor or her pharmacist. 

To calm down or cheer up

Some essential oils have soothing properties.

The pharmacy doctors cite in the foreground the essential oil of lemon which "contains limonene known to be antistress or even antidepressant".

The effect is immediate "if only in diffusion", she specifies.

She adds that in some nursing homes, lemon essential oil is used as "a subliminal odor, we do not smell it consciously but unconsciously, we are fine".

Even more surprisingly, it would help reduce the consumption of anxiolytics.

"We lower the drug budget in some cases," says Françoise Couic-Marinier. 

Another soothing oil: officinal lavender.

It is also recommended for young parents who want to calm their babies.

It is then enough to add three drops in the bath of the child.

But be careful, you must use an emulsifier since the oil does not dilute in water.

"For example, we see an increase in the phase of slow deep sleep by 50%. The child is more attentive and cries less at 27% so everyone likes it," adds the doctor of pharmacy. 

If your morale is at half mast, she recommends opting for shell marjoram instead.

The flower of the bitter orange tree, the bigarade neroli, will be used more "when we have sadness from the past, from childhood or in relation to confinement", she adds. 

To sleep well

If appeasement doesn't help you sleep then you can try essential oils that directly promote sleep.

According to this aromatherapy specialist, we can find the small grain of bigarade "which is the leaf of the bitter orange", bergamot or chamomile.

To manage eating disorders 

There are essential oils to manage your appetite.

On the one hand, some so-called appetite suppressants "will act on the cerebral pleasure system" by reducing our appetite, explains Françoise Couic-Marinier.

She recommends in particular the essential oil of grapefruit or geranium if the excesses are particularly sweet.

Conversely, some essential oils allow you to regain weight such as "coriander, ginger to avoid nausea or even peppermint", advises the doctor of pharmacy.

"Some hospitals even use olfaction rooms before going to eat to stimulate or calm the center of satiety," she says.

However, we must distinguish between loss of appetite and anorexia.

The latter requires psychiatric treatment. 

To boost your libido

More original, some essential oils are recommended for those who experience a loss of libido.

It is not the same that are recommended for men and women since they "do not have the same hormonal systems".

"The woman must be in a context of letting go to benefit while the man needs more to be stimulated", she specifies.

She then recommends the essential oil of ylang-ylang "called flower of love in Indonesian" for women and ginger for men.
