THE ESSENTIAL

  • Marina Foïs is the mistress of ceremonies for this 46th edition of the César.

  • This year, the context is very particular.

Not only are the cinemas closed (and have been for a good part of the year) but the Académie des César is emerging from a year of crisis after a catastrophic 2020 edition.

  • Despite everything, we will have to reward the few films released this year and save appearances.

From Marseille to the César, who is Emmanuel Mouret, the favorite of the ceremony?

Good evening and welcome to this live

I remember last winter… The cinemas were open, the coronavirus did not exist (or almost), and Adèle Haenel had dynamited the ceremony (and the Academy) of the Caesar by getting up and breaking.

More than a year after a catastrophic edition which saw the triumph of Roman Polanski and Les

Misérables

by Ladj Ly, the world of cinema had to tinker with a 2021 ceremony. Few films were released this year, some of the nominated ones remained at the displays only one day, and the Académie des César has begun its journey towards greater inclusion and transparency.

And in addition, the ceremony must be held with strict sanitary measures: the nominees and nominees will be the only ones present in the room, with masks of course, and spaced from each other.

In the middle of all this, we will have to have a ceremony with joy, laughter and emotion.

Sacred challenge for Marina Foïs!
