[Explanation] Old Man Duguima is 79 years old this year, and she is better known as "Prairie Mother".

In the 1960s, a large number of orphans in many parts of southern China faced the threat of insufficient food.

The party committee and government of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region took the initiative to take these orphans to the prairie for nurturing.

After three years of "life migration" from Jiangnan to Saibei, a total of more than 3,000 orphans were sent to Inner Mongolia to be raised.

At that time, the Mongolian girl Du Guima, who was only 19 years old, became the common mother of 28 children among the "Three Thousand Orphans."

On March 11, Du Guima recalled the past to reporters at his home in Siziwangqi, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

[Explanation] Du Guima, born in 1942, is a herder from Siziwangqi Naomgengsumu. Because of her studies and serious work, she was selected as a nurse at Siziwangqi Nursery School when she was 19 years old.

Du Guima, who has not been married and gave birth, took on the task of caring for 28 orphans after training.

[Commentary] Du Guima said that her parents died young and she knew how pitiful a lamb was to lose her mother.

Under her care, all 28 children grew up safely.

In the spring and summer of 1961, local herder families without children began to adopt orphans one after another, and the children started a new life. Their first mother, Guima, who came to the grassland, suffered 28 separations from mother and child.

To this day, Du Guima tears her eyes when she thinks of the scene at that time.

The selfless love for children has made Duguima recognized by all sectors of society. In 2019, Duguima was awarded the national honorary title of "Model of the People" in Beijing.

She has said more than once that children are the hope of the grassland and the hope of the country.

Now these 28 children are with us (Siziwangqi), and their lives are very stable.

Some children grew up in pastoral areas and became herdsmen.

The eldest child is almost 70 years old. I see some children and several grandchildren. I am very happy when I look at them. These children will come to see me often, and I also feel very relieved in my heart. .

[Explanation] Now that we have gone through the years of Jiazi, this period of national unity and progress on the grasslands of northern China has become a good story, and the orphans who came to the grasslands have also taken root here.

Sun Baowei, 61 years old this year, is the youngest of the 28 orphans Du Guima took care of. He came to the grasslands of Inner Mongolia shortly after his birth. After Du Guima took care of him, a young couple from Hebei Province adopted him. he.

Since then, he has planted his roots in the grassland. Sun Baowei said in an interview that he did not have much memory when he was young, and he only gradually understood the history of "three thousand orphans entering Inner Mongolia" when he grew up. In the era of scarcity of supplies, Mongolian parents accepted three thousand orphans with great love and broad-mindedness. He wanted to tell these to his grandchildren. The story of national unity must not be forgotten.

I was in (1961) when I was less than one year old, and I came to Inner Mongolia with the children of the country. (I) have a deep affection for this grassland.

Without this grassland, it can be said that there would be no me.

I am 61 years old this year and have retired. I also told my children that this is not my second hometown. In fact, this is my home.
