  • The government announced on Wednesday the launch of a national platform for psychological support for students, and clarified its outlines on Thursday.

  • It will "accelerate psychological support for students who feel the need, anywhere in the country," promises the Ministry of Higher Education.

  • This psychological support will be completely free and without advance payment.

A response to the distress of many students.

The government announced on Wednesday the launch of a national platform for psychological support for students, Santé Psy Etudiant.

And the Ministry of Higher Education detailed this Thursday the operation of the device.

20 Minutes

takes stock.

What is the goal of this platform?

It is clear that there is a lack of psychologists in the University Health Services (SSU).

According to a report published by Nightline in November 2020, there is indeed one full-time university psychologist for every 30,000 students.

Frédérique Vidal has certainly announced that "the number of psychologists in universities will be doubled this semester", but that remains insufficient.

And some students who no longer have face-to-face lessons have returned to their parents' homes, and no longer have access to their SSU.

Hence the ambition of this platform.

It will "accelerate psychological support for students who feel the need, anywhere in the country," promises the Ministry of Higher Education.

How does it work?

This platform is launched in partnership with the French Federation of Psychologists and Psychology.

It already lists 1,400 psychologists, who volunteered to take care of the students.

It remains to be seen whether they will be numerous enough to absorb the demand.

The student does not have to pay anything, it is the administrative and financial services of his establishment which regulate the consultations on the basis of a price of 30 euros.

"This system is in place until December 31, 2021", indicates the Ministry of Higher Education.

How to do to solicit it?

As a first step, the student must consult a general practitioner or his university health service, who will refer him to the psychologist if necessary.

To do this, he must have his student card.

He can then choose his psychologist from the list available on the platform and make an appointment with him directly.

He will be entitled to three free consultations of 45 minutes.

And if he needs more, he can have three more, but by going back to the doctor's compartment first.

Of course, the preservation of medical confidentiality is guaranteed.

The student's UFR (training and research unit) will not be made aware of the fact that he has requested a psychologist.

Only the health service of his university will be.

Good to know: students who already went to see a shrink before this device can still benefit from it, by consulting the SSU or a general practitioner beforehand.
