The desperation is great and especially among those who do not receive financial compensation during the crisis.

Tom Schmidely, 23, who is studying music, is one of the occupiers.

- I am not old enough to receive state compensation and have not accumulated enough working hours.

I have barely 100 euros a month to live on and can no longer play.

I will continue to fight but it feels a bit depressing, he says.

A higher price than necessary

Demonstrations in Paris began in December and have continued to grow since then.

Cultural workers are tired of unemployment and of continued restrictions.

They believe that cultural life has had to pay a higher price than necessary, as, for example, shopping centers are open.

The cult workers have the support of the Minister of Culture, but so far they are waiting for the decision of the French government.

The Swedish Cultural Council in Paris, Ewa Kumlin, says that it is a very difficult situation for the cultural workers and that 90 percent of the free French theater groups have had to close down.

- They have received what is called a white year, that is, even if they have not had any commitments, you can get money as an unemployment fund.

But then it is not always the case that you get paid.

Too often it is postponed instead of canceled, and then there is also no income, says Ewa Kumlin.
