The number of new infections in Germany fell significantly for weeks in January and February.

However, it has recently stagnated, which could also be due to the spread of more contagious variants.

The nationwide

seven-day R-value

was

0.96

according to the RKI management report from Wednesday evening

(previous day 0.97).

This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 96 more people.

The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides;

if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.

In

Denmark

, the government sees scope for more easing thanks to a stabilization of the corona situation.

The

R-value

now lies at

1.0

and that meant that the infection process was increasing not, tells health minister Magnus Heunicke on Twitter.

"This gives us the basis for a further controlled opening." Despite the recent easing, the situation has not deteriorated, although the British virus variant, which is considered to be more infectious, has now been found in around 80 percent of all positive tests.

Corona worldwide

Sad new record in

Brazil

: The authorities of the South American country registered more than 2,200 deaths related to the coronavirus within 24 hours.

As the Ministry of Health in Brasília announced on Wednesday, 2286 people have died as a result of Covid-19 since Tuesday.

The number of corona-related deaths in the country rose to 270,656.

More corona deaths have only been counted in the USA since the beginning of the pandemic.

Brazil also recorded a new high in infection cases: According to the authorities, almost 80,000 new infections were registered within 24 hours.

Since the pandemic began, more than eleven million of the 212 million inhabitants of Brazil have been proven to be infected with the corona virus.

Experts assume that the sharp increase in the number of infections and deaths is due to new virus variants that are more contagious than the original form of the Covid-19 pathogen.

In Brazil, the pandemic had "arrived at its worst moment," said the scientist Margareth Dalcolmo from the Fiocruz research center of the AFP news agency.

"2021 will still be a very tough year."

Brazil's right-wing leader Jair Bolsonaro rejects restrictions on public life due to the corona pandemic and masks.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, he has downplayed the corona risk, calling the virus, among other things, “minor flu”.

He also made fun of vaccinations.
