A movement that is gaining momentum!

The Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot judged Wednesday "useless" and "dangerous" the occupation of theaters to demand the reopening of cultural places.

The occupation of the Théâtre de l'Odéon in Paris last week triggered a continuing movement, followed in particular by the mobilization of two other national theaters, the Colline, in eastern Paris, and the Théâtre national de Strasbourg (TNS ).

"Occupying places of culture is not the right way"

“Occupying places of culture is not the right way, it's useless […].

These maneuvers are dangerous because they endanger fragile heritage places, ”the minister said during current government questions.

In addition to the reopening of cultural places in compliance with health instructions, the demonstrators are demanding, among other things, an extension of the white year for intermittents and its extension to all precarious and seasonal workers.

"Substantial announcements" to make for this world of culture

Roselyne Bachelot reaffirmed the government's support for the world of Culture impacted by the health crisis: "It is a specificity of France, in no country in the world we do not support culture as we support it in our country".

“We are working to maintain the rights of intermittent workers [a mission is due to deliver its conclusions soon].

In no way will we go back on the rights of intermittent workers, we will protect them, ”she added.

And to specify that the government works "even to improve the provisions in particular with the first-time entrants, because it is necessary to protect the young people in the culture".

The minister also mentioned a meeting this Thursday at the Prime Minister's place and "substantial announcements to be made for this world of culture that we want to protect".

“Youth is here!

She speaks and with her hope ”

The director of the Théâtre de la Colline, the director and playwright Wajdi Mouawad, supported the protest movement in a press release on Wednesday: “Spring is coming!

Youth is here!

She speaks and with her, hope ”.

“La Colline supports, through dialogue and trust, the actions of the students who have invested in its space.

They are at home here.

Our duty is to listen to them, to understand them and to encourage them in the process of their thought ", he added, specifying that the theater would relay their messages and welcome them" until the end of their gesture ”.

"Say, when will you reopen?"

"

Since Tuesday, students from the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art (CNSAD), the Higher School of Dramatic Art (Esad) and the Studio ESCA (Superior School of Actors by Alternation in France) demonstrate in front of the Parisian theater and 30 of them are inside.

In Bordeaux, the students of the Superior Theater School of Bordeaux Aquitaine also organized a support rally on Wednesday in front of the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, carrying a banner on which one could read "Say, when will you reopen?"

".

The CGT Spectacle affirmed Wednesday that it supported the actions in all these theaters, as well as those in Espaces Pluriels in Pau, the Equinoxe in Châteauroux and the Opéra Graslin in Nantes, calling for "the broadest support of all these actions in progress and to come ”.
