In the Netherlands, engineer Lodewijk Ottens died at the age of 94. In the early 1950s, he joined Philips. By 1960, Ottens became the head of one of the company's departments, which under his leadership created the first portable tape recorder, and later - the first compact cassette with magnetic tape, which became the new standard for recording. Subsequently, the engineer was appointed head of the audio equipment division. During this work, he took part in the creation of the compact disc format, which also became the standard for the recording industry.
