"Female doctor", "student criminal policeman", "poison appraiser"... In the eyes of others, Xing Yuxiu has his own "halo", "My friends think that my profession is mysterious and'tall', but it's almost the same as an inspector. "She said cheerfully.

Xing Yuxiu is the deputy director of the Science and Technology Research Management Center of the Criminal Police Corps of the Qinghai Provincial Public Security Bureau. In the 13 years of being a police officer, this tall, fair-skinned, soft-spoken "forensic pioneer" has been working with experiments and data all day long. Companion, trying to restore the truth with science and meticulousness.

Every crime scene is an "examination"

"Last night, my forensic colleagues had an all-night autopsy and just went back to rest." At ten o'clock in the morning, Xing Yuxiu's office was very quiet. On the computer desktop, she was staring at the data in front of the instrument with a ponytail. When I entered the line, my colleague took pictures of the gunshot residues," she recalled.

Xing Yuxiu's physical and chemical laboratory is mainly responsible for the inspection and appraisal of relevant physical evidence in various criminal cases.

"To determine the attributes and content of toxic drugs," Xing Yuxiu said, "The most common method is to detect the alcohol content in the body of the person involved, and determine whether it constitutes drunk driving based on the value of the blood sample." In addition, in some traffic accident cases, the laboratory also Responsible for detecting trace material evidence such as fiber, glass, paint, etc.

“Generally, male colleagues go to the site for on-site surveys. We plan in advance in the laboratory and start as soon as the samples are delivered.” Xing Yuxiu said. First of all, we must check the material evidence information, check the biological tissues for corruption, and formulate the detection plan by classification. “Sometimes the sample With a large number, it will take a whole day for the processing work just before getting on the computer, and then searching, matching, and repeatedly analyzing and adjusting the report generated by the instrument in the computer to get the identification result and issue the legal document.

During the Spring Festival of 2013, a medicinal alcohol poisoning case occurred in a county in Hainan Prefecture, Qinghai Province. Xing Yuxiu and his colleagues carried out tests overnight, and informed the hospital of the test results in the afternoon of the next day to promptly point out the direction for rescue work. In the end, two patients were out of danger.

"Good memory is not as good as bad pen". Taking notes is a habit that Xing Yuxiu has persisted for many years. After opening the drawer, dozens of notes are arranged according to the year. The Chinese and English handwritings are neatly and interspersed with pictures, and the key points are marked in different colors. "I will Organize it often, and you can quickly check it when you need it," she said.

Every time she finishes the experiment, she will carefully save and archive the test tubes and cups, wash and wipe them clean. "The hygiene of the laboratory can reflect the accuracy of the data." Xing Yuxiu believes that every crime scene is one time. The "examination" is a test of both usual skill and on-the-spot response. "Mutual cooperation, trust, and even more a test of care and patience."

No regrets if you make a mistake, you regret if you haven't done it

Xing Yuxiu was originally a quality inspector in a Tibetan medicine factory when he majored in biopharmaceuticals at university.

In 2008, after graduating from a graduate school, she was preparing to study for a Ph.D. By chance, she signed up for the examination of the public security system and passed the exam. “In terms of now, I am also considered cross-border,” she said with a smile, “compared to the research institute. After doing basic research, I feel that the work of the public security organs is more specific and can directly reflect my value."

In 2016, Xing Yuxiu accidentally saw the notice from the Ministry of Public Security and the China Scholarship Council to study abroad, and did not hesitate to sign up, “I have never traveled far since I was a child, and I really want to see it.” Then he went to the US Li Changyu Criminal Law and Criminal Law The School of Forensic Studies began a 6-month visit.

Doing experiments, listening to lectures, and visiting with the professor, Xing Yuxiu deeply admires his high degree of self-discipline and charisma.

"The professor's most famous sentence is'make the impossible possible'," Xing Yuxiu felt, this is also a testament to her personal experience.

From working as a criminal police "cross-border" to studying in the United States alone, to trying to establish the first new psychoactive substance database in Qinghai Province with my colleagues this year, in Xing Yuxiu's eyes, everything "from nothing to something" begins with a change of concept. Don't limit yourself because the conditions are not enough, don't be afraid of making mistakes, look far and try bravely, the dream will really come true." She said.

Behind the "irreplaceable": helplessness and glory

Currently, there are only 9 people engaged in physical and chemical inspections in the public security system of Qinghai Province. Xing Yuxiu and his colleagues are responsible for various tasks such as laboratories, instruments, data, and appraisal documents, with an average of more than 1,200 investigations per year.

Compared with young people who are not willing to be "screws" in all walks of life, Xing Yuxiu's "irreplaceable" is enviable because of the professional and special nature of his work. However, for her, glory and helplessness are just two sides of a coin. .

In 2011, Xing Yuxiu became pregnant. At that time, the laboratory was short of manpower and there were many cases. She had a meal without a meal and slept on the floor while working. She overcame the physical exhaustion of working overtime, but could not let go of the hidden worries in her heart.

“Even though you wear radiation protection suits and masks, you will inevitably come into contact with poisons, strong radiation, and volatile gases.” She recalled, “Inspections are divided into different laboratories. Even if others are willing to help, they will be unable to operate equipment and experiment links. On your own, I am really afraid."

Nowadays, my 10-year-old son is used to being picked up at the end of school every day, eating and doing homework at a classmate’s house... "My husband is a prison guard, and we have to be on call for work. There is no way to spend more time with our children. "Xing Yuxiu said, "My son has been insecure since he was a child. We work overtime at night and go home late. He always has to turn on the light to sleep."

Feeling sad and at a loss. Faced with equipment, drugs, and data day after day, Xing Yuxiu also thought about trying other jobs, "but I still can’t bear to take off this police uniform." Let’s look at the colleague who lowered his head. The husband who worked silently felt both distressed and touched, "Also reminded myself many times to keep the'weights and measures' in my heart."

"When doing experiments, there are often scenes of the case in my mind, and I feel that the victim needs help," she said. "Only by focusing on the present and trying to get more scientific and convincing data can we save lives, restore property losses, and retrieve them. Fairness and justice."
