The journalist and sports analyst Carlos Matallanas died this Tuesday after seven years suffering from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), as he himself announced in

El Confidencial

, in 2014, when he was diagnosed with the disease.

The first symptoms arrived in the summer of 2013, but it was in 2014 when the medical diagnosis detected the disease.

And, from that moment, until this Tuesday when his death occurred, Matallana has emerged as one of the visible faces in the fight against this disease through his different articles in media such as El Confidencial or the newspaper As, where he worked as a sports analyst, or in the organization of events such as a charity match to raise funds at the Fernando Torres Stadium in Fuenlabrada, where he dressed in shorts for the last time.

Matallanas had also developed a career as a semi-professional footballer in Madrid.

Since its inception in the early 90s in the lower categories of Carabanchel.

Later, as an adult, he would go through teams such as Rayo Majadahonda, Moscardó, Puerta Bonita, the Coslada subsidiary or Pozuelo de Alarcón.
