"It is a blessing to be able to get help from others when you are most desperate." When the 57-year-old Lin Xinde said this with a smile on his face, he was busy making grilled squid for customers.

He is the owner of a squid snack bar in Chaoyang Community, Huaichuan Street, Liuyang City, Hunan Province.

It was 15 years ago, when he was most desperate to get help from others, that made him sigh.

In 2006, Lin Xinde and his friends opened a pig feed factory in Liuyang.

Accidents will happen.

Back then, his right hand was accidentally cut by a machine while working, and the feed factory went bankrupt due to poor management.

"After bankruptcy, I have arrears of more than 600,000 yuan." Seeing that life is improving, Lin Xinde has encountered the lowest point of life.

"The two sons are going to school, and the family can't afford the tuition." What made Lin Xinde even more sad was that many friends at the time refused to borrow money because of his bankruptcy. "When he was poorest, he couldn't even afford 1.5 yuan a pack of cigarettes."

Just when Lin Xinde was desperate, a friend lent him 2,000 yuan and helped him find his way without asking for anything in return.

In the end, his friend contacted a grilled squid training organization in the north for him.

This is how Lin Xinde's squid snack bar is now.

Lin Xinde, who got help from others when he was most desperate, made up his mind: in the future, he must be willing to help others and be a helper in the snow.

By chance, Lin Xinde learned that many local students were unable to continue their studies due to their poor families, so he came up with the idea of helping poor students.

"After this idea, my family did not object. They thought that I could be busy. After all, my family had received help from others." The students helped by Lin Xinde were recommended by Liuyang Charity Association. "After the recommendation, I will go to the student's home. The purpose of the inspection is also to gain a deeper understanding of the students’ family situation."

From a few hundred yuan at the beginning, to several thousand yuan a year for one student, Lin Xinde has helped 10 college students complete their studies in more than 10 years.

While helping students, Lin Xinde actively participated in public welfare activities.

After the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, he carried out charity sales of grilled squid for disaster relief while in debt, earning more than 600 yuan a day at most.

"At that time, all were donated to the disaster area." Lin Xinde said, a friend helped him count. In recent years, he has donated a total of 160,000 yuan for helping students and doing charity.

Help others before the debt is paid off, does the creditor agree?

"I send text messages or visit my creditors every year and holidays, and promise to pay back a portion of the money every year. I did it. Everyone understands my education and charity behavior. Now I still have more than 9,000 yuan in debt. All debts will be repaid within this year." Lin Xinde said.

Now, both of Lin Xinde's sons have married, and life is getting better.

As the debts dwindled, Lin Xinde became more cheerful and talkative.

However, Lin Xinde's work habits that he has persisted for more than ten years have not changed.

"I watch the store during the day, and rotate my son to watch the store at night. I push the grilled squid cart to set up the stall. If I can earn more, I can earn more, so that I can help more people." Lin Xinde said, he will insist on helping students and doing charity. "It is a happy thing to get help from others when you are most desperate." (End)
