The acceleration in the rate of vaccination in the United States is beginning to alter the rules of the pandemic game.

On Monday the Centers for Disease Prevention Control (CDC) confirmed an expected change in regulations for those Americans vaccinated with Covid-19.

They will have greater freedom to socialize

, including meetings in closed spaces, and they will be exempt from complying with quarantine periods or being tested if they have been exposed to the virus, as long as they do not show symptoms.

The rule applies to those who have received both doses of the Pizfer and Moderna vaccine, and only one if it is from Johnson & Johnson.

They must also wait two weeks to be fully protected

.

But once those requirements are met, they will be able to regain some of their pre-pandemic habits.

Meetings with other vaccinated people, without the need for masks or social distance, and with members of the same unvaccinated family who are not high-risk patients will be allowed.

The new regulations especially benefit grandparents who until now had had to refrain from having contact with their grandchildren.

Those already vaccinated will be able to have children around again safely

, as long as they belong to the same family nucleus.

If the meeting is extended to minors from other houses, distance and masks must be kept.

The CDC also recommends that the group move to an outdoor space.

Avoid long distance travel

What has not changed is the recommendation to avoid long-distance travel,

especially abroad

, to maintain the downward trend in positives and deaths at the national level.

Since the peak recorded on January 8, with more than 300,000 cases in a single day

, it has gone to an average of 58,000 cases per day in the last week, with a similar decrease in percentage in the number of deaths and hospitalizations.

A lot has to do with the number of vaccines administered,

92.1 million from coast to coast

, according to the latest CDC figures.

In total, 23.5% of the population over 18 years of age have already received at least one dose, a figure that is expected to increase rapidly in the coming weeks due to the rate at which they are being administered.

Only the weekend a record was broken: 5.3 million doses between Saturday and Sunday.

Jeff Zients, the coordinator of the coronavirus crisis at the White House,

confirmed that it has gone from an average of 900,000 daily vaccinations to the current two million

.

This is after President Joe Biden's announcement to guarantee a dose for each citizen before May 31, two months before the date set by his administration.

"We do not lower our guard"

Still, the message remains one of caution.

"We have to make sure we don't let our guard down," Zients said.

"People must continue down this path to defeat this pandemic."

Meanwhile, many States have decided to accelerate their return to normalcy,

with businesses open without any restrictions and public schools back to their usual routine prior to the health crisis

.

Texas, Mississippi and Alabama announced last week

the end of the mandatory mask for their citizens, measures to which Biden reacted with strong criticism

.

The fear of a rebound in the crisis is still very much alive.
