  • Princess Diana was the common thread of the interview

Oprah Winfrey had promised an interview where no subject would be left out, and it's done.

Meghan Markle, then Prince Harry made shattering revelations about their life within the royal family of England.

Prince Charles' son reiterated that he left "so that history does not repeat itself" in reference to his mother, Lady Diana, and it is exactly the same crisis that Buckingham Palace plunges after this interview, 26 years old after the interview granted by the Princess of Wales to Martin Bashir.

It was first of all Meghan Markle who sat with Oprah Winfrey in a sumptuous Californian garden.

And for an hour, she set the record straight.

Did she make Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge and future Queen of England cry over the bridesmaids' dresses at her wedding, as reported by the tabloids?

“No, it's the other way around,” explains the Duchess of Sussex.

Who later assures: "They (the Windsors) are ready to lie to protect other family members, but they are not ready to speak the truth to protect me and my family".

A barely veiled reference to Prince Andrew, accused of having abused a minor sent by Jeffrey Epstein, with whom he was friends, and never worried by the monarchy.

Racism in the English court

Meghan Markle also explained that she had "wanted to commit suicide" and asked for help from the monarchy.

Help refused by Human Resources employees - the same people who are in charge of an investigation against her following accusations of harassment.

The Duchess of Sussex (who keeps her title but can no longer call herself Royal Highness) also mentioned her first pregnancy and the main questioning of "certain members of the family": what will be the color of her child's skin?

“There have been concerns and conversations about how dark her skin would be at birth,” said the former actress, born to a black mother and a white father.

She then explained that her son does not have a royal title because the transmission system was changed just before he was born.

She leaves the public to make their own conclusions about the timing chosen for this rule change.

Words confirmed by Prince Harry who refused to say with which member of the family this conversation took place, nor the details.

“It was disturbing and quite shocking,” he simply explained.

No support from Prince Charles

Meghan Markle did not name anyone throughout her interview, except when it came to having kind words, as for Kate Middleton, who certainly made her cry but is "a good person", or the queen she adores.

And Elizabeth II is indeed the only person who finds favor in the eyes of the couple.

Once Prince Harry joined the interview, the names rocketed.

He did not hesitate to declare that his father, Prince Charles, no longer takes his calls since they left the United Kingdom.

However, the Queen and her successor were aware of their plans, well in advance contrary to what was said in the media.

Prince Harry also said his father and brother Prince William are "trapped" in the institution of the monarchy.

Trap from which he freed himself by meeting Meghan Markle.

For her part, the future mother accused the palace of having "silenced".

The only clarification during this shock interview: the Sussexes are expecting a girl.

Diana's shadow

This interview has many parallels with the accusations made 26 years earlier by Lady Diana.

She too accused the royal family of lying to protect themselves, silencing her and not taking care of her when she was at its worst.

How will “La Firme” get out of this new scandal?

In 1995, Prince Charles responded to his ex-wife's accusations by giving his own interview.

The result had been catastrophic for the image of the royal family, just like when Prince Andrew chose to defend himself two years ago from accusations of sexual abuse and respond on his links to Jeffrey Epstein on the BBC .

The only way out for Elizabeth II, sticking to the family adage: “never complain, never explain”, while waiting for the storm to pass.

The full interview will air tonight on TMC.
