WELT AM SONNTAG:

Which Star Wars character and their theme are closest to you?

Williams:

Of course Darth Vader and his Imperial March, I was really very happy with that, even if he ran away from me a long time ago.

As a contrast, I also like the Yoda theme very much, diminished B flat major, that is very simple, almost floating and clear.

Just like this small, worldly and yet powerful father figure.

Film music has to be simple and graphic, then it is best combined with a memorable image.

WORLD ON SUNDAY:

Is that why children in particular love the dark Darth Vader theme so much?

Williams:

Probably yes.

It is grandiose, monumental and huge, but in its simple march structure immediately understandable and therefore recognizable.

Just like Darth Vader's costume, by the way, which can already be deciphered as a silhouette.
