China News Service, Hong Kong, March 8 (Reporter Zhang Xiaoxi) The Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Carrie Lam said in a meeting with the media on the 8th that the Hong Kong electoral system has loopholes and deficiencies and it is difficult for the Special Administrative Region to deal with it on its own.

She thanked the central government for taking responsibility from the constitutional level and exercising the power of the central government after enacting the Hong Kong National Security Law in 2020, so as to relieve the difficulties of the SAR.

In the next step, the SAR government will cooperate with the relevant work in three stages.

Carrie Lam went to Beijing to attend the opening ceremony of the Fourth Session of the Thirteenth National People's Congress a few days ago.

On the afternoon of March 6, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council Han Zheng met with Carrie Lam and Chief Executive of Macau Special Administrative Region He Yicheng respectively.

After returning to Hong Kong, Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor met with the media and pointed out that only by ensuring that Hong Kong's governance is in the hands of patriots, can the "one country, two systems" be fully and accurately implemented.

The SAR government welcomes and supports related work very much, and will provide full cooperation.

She said that the "decision to add amendments" approach adopted in this work is timely, necessary, legal and constitutional, and the central leadership is beyond doubt.

In the next step, the SAR government will cooperate with the relevant work in three stages, including: 1. Fully promote the work of public interpretation; 2. Hear opinions from all walks of life on the revision of Annex 1 and Annex 2 of the Hong Kong Basic Law; 3. Carry out local legislative work.

Carrie Lam pointed out that the work related to legislative amendments is quite complicated and there is a lot of work to be done.

After the amendments to local laws, the SAR government will properly arrange multiple elections in the next 12 months and will "go all out to accomplish its mission."

In addition, when answering questions from reporters, she pointed out that Hong Kong’s current top priority is still the prevention and control of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, and the vaccination of the new crown pneumonia is very important for the epidemic to reach a level of control and resume personnel exchanges. Hope All sectors of the Hong Kong community are vaccinated in accordance with the priorities arranged by the SAR government.
