The Rooster Chante has decided to celebrate the day of March 8, 2021 in its own way.

A first clarification: March 8 is not Women's Day, but International Women's Day.

We are therefore going to talk about polygamy, excision, early marriages, forced marriages, and all these social practices which prevent a real development of women in many countries.

Publicity

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Bamako Declaration.

It is the first text that the Francophonie has adopted, in the field of democracy and human rights.

And to celebrate this 20th anniversary, the International Organization of La Francophonie has initiated a cycle of “Francophone Conversations” to discuss issues relating to human rights, fundamental freedoms and democracy.

The 3rd and last Conversation of this cycle had for theme: “

Fight against early marriages and forced marriages in the French-speaking world

”.

There is a long way to go for the development of women in the world.

And this concerns all societies, all cultural backgrounds, all continents and all countries.

Each to varying degrees.

And the main difficulty is that we have turned simple public health problems into taboo questions.

Talking about it therefore amounts to criticizing, or even offending, a culture or a religion.

One day or another, human societies will have to find a way to overcome these difficulties, which are totally artificial.

Because you have to know that every year, 12 million girls are married before the age of 18 around the world, or 1 in 5 girls, according to the NGO Plan international.

In West and Central Africa, more than 4 in 10 young women are married before their eighteenth year.

RFI is dedicating, Monday March 8, 2021, a special day to International Women's Day by honoring women scientists.
