The police in the Russian capital Moscow hunt down thieves who are after money and jewelry in bank lockers.

Most recently, a total of 157 million rubles (equivalent to 1.7 million euros) were stolen, several media reported on Sunday, citing the investigators.

About half of the sum belonged to the head of the bank.

Several lockers have been opened.

Such thefts have been increasing recently, reported Echo Moskvy radio station. In February alone, money and jewelry worth the equivalent of more than 3.3 million euros were stolen from lockers. The police assume a gang that is behind the crimes.
