Since Tuesday, around fifteen people have occupied the Hôtel des Cévennes located in Saint-Julien-des-Points, a town of 113 inhabitants in Lozère, a stone's throw from the Gard department.

They took possession of the empty places for fifteen years and the owner's retirement.

“It's a building that has been unoccupied since 2006,” explains one of their representatives.

A good part of these young people are seasonal, another intermittent of the spectacle.

They find themselves without resources and cannot afford housing.

It is a requisition because it is a vital need ”.

"I have the impression of being an outlaw at home"

The owner lives in a retirement home.

His little daughter asked the occupants to leave the premises, to no avail.

“I feel like an outlaw myself, because I cannot access my own establishment,” she explains.

I don't want to go into proceedings: they may have legal aid, but I have nothing.

I get up every morning to work, I pay taxes like everyone else and I'm not even at home anymore ”.

Municipal officials and a majority of neighbors mobilized on Friday to show their support for the owners, in the presence of the gendarmerie.

"Nothing justifies this occupation," says Mayor André Deleuze.

If legally, they can claim to occupy a building, morally they have no rights ”.

A deportation order has been lodged with the court in Mende.
