By adjusting the balance of intestinal bacteria, a group such as Osaka City University elucidated the process of recovery of special enteritis symptoms for the first time, and it is attracting attention as it will lead to the establishment of various treatment methods using intestinal bacteria. ..

The research was conducted by a group of Professor Satoshi Uematsu of Osaka City University.

It is known that when the balance of various types of bacteria "intestinal bacteria" in the human intestine is lost, health condition deteriorates and illness occurs.

In the group, transplanting stool containing intestinal bacteria of healthy people to a patient with a disease called "C-difficile enteritis" that occurs when the intestinal bacteria are out of balance due to the influence of antibacterial drugs will improve the symptoms. We paid attention to the function of the intestinal bacteria of the transplanted patients in detail.

As a result, in the intestines of patients after transplantation, the number of bacteria that convert bile secreted from the liver into a substance called "secondary bile acid" that has a bactericidal action increases, suppressing the growth of bacteria that cause diseases and suppressing the growth of the intestines. It was confirmed that the balance of internal bacteria was improved.

According to the group, this is the first time we have identified a process by which the balance of gut flora improves the disease.

Professor Uematsu said, "It was confirmed that not only the number of bacteria increased or decreased, but also the function of the bacteria improved the health condition. It is an important step toward establishing various treatment methods using intestinal bacteria. ".
