On one acre of land, there are broad beans and lotus white; in a yard, there are chicken coops, pigpens and sheep pens; in a small building, there are cross stitches and embroidered insoles; a pair of children, grown ups, find jobs... It is hard to imagine that this is a "normal" life created by a disabled couple with one hand and two legs.

Recently, a reporter from China News Agency visited Pingzi Village, Dongchuan District, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, and walked into the life of the disabled couple.

For more than 20 years, they have lived with unimaginable tenacity and perseverance, raising their children and getting rid of poverty.

Her husband, Zhang Shundong, was born in 1974. He was injured by electric shock at the age of 6. He lost his right hand due to poverty and lack of money for treatment. Later, both feet were ulcerated in the heavy farm work and amputated successively, with only one healthy left hand.

His wife Li Guoxiu, born in 1971, had no hands but only one pair of feet.

"At the beginning, when I went to her house to propose a marriage, her family did not agree, because they were afraid that the two disabled people would not be able to live together." Zhang Shundong recalled, "I told her that you are my feet and I am your hands. There is nothing to go through. !" Because of these words, Zhang Shundong moved Li Guoxiu and formed this special family.

After marriage, various difficulties followed one after another. The family was poor and the house was dilapidated, and I felt like I was climbing a mountain.

In the hardest time, the couple had the desire to die.

Until the birth of the two children, they regained their confidence and determined to raise the children.

Wife Li Guoxiu trains her feet hard. At home, she uses her feet to cook rice, stir-fry, wash vegetables, mop the floor, wash the floor, stir feed, feed pigs, chickens, and sheep... In the ground, she can also use her feet to weed and pull peanuts. , Picking up sweet potatoes, slicing potatoes... For needlework, she uses her mouth to take out the sewing kit, her right toe clamps the flower thread, her left toe clamps the embroidery needle, the needle is put on in a few seconds, and the feet are matched with the embroidered insole.

Husband Zhang Shundong, whether it is cloudy or raining, often before dawn, he goes up the mountain to find hogweed and go down to grow crops.

In those years, when I planted rice, I was busy during the day, and at night I had to put water in the fields, plant seedlings, and squash millet.

His feet, which had been injured by electric shocks, were often soaked in water and started to become inflamed, but he had no money for medical treatment.

By 2013, the right foot had been ulcerated and had to be amputated.

"The state reimbursed me for more than 20,000 yuan for surgery, but I only paid more than 800 yuan. The operation was relatively successful." After the operation, Zhang Shundong, who was left with one hand and one foot, raised money to buy a tricycle as a means of transportation and production. .

In 2017, in the fight against poverty in China, the government subsidized them 51,000 yuan to build a new house, and he transported all the materials used to build the house from outside.

After the new house was built, he was also exhausted and his left foot was severely inflamed.

"It was the government's help again, and he performed two operations to install prostheses." Zhang Shundong said that the government's assistance unit always pays attention to helping them and applies for their minimum living allowance.

"One year when my wife got sick and the sweet potatoes at home couldn't be planted for a long time, the village organized villagers to help us plant all 5 mu of sweet potato seedlings."

In this way, with the help of the government, the couple lived a strong life and raised their children through each other through spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Seeing the children grow up day by day, Li Guoxiu often shed tears and said, "The biggest debt in my life is that I can’t give my child a hug! The children of other families are all raised with hands, while the two children of my family are hugged with both feet. big."

In special circumstances, children are destined to be the hope of this family.

With the help of the government, their daughter successfully graduated from university and became a teacher, and his son took part in vocational skills training and found a job in Kunming.

In 2020, the monthly salary of a pair of children will exceed 10,000 yuan, and the family will lift out of poverty together with nearly 100 million rural poor in China.

In the past few days, Zhang Shundong took part in the e-commerce training for the disabled in Dongchuan District and bought a computer. He hoped to use one hand to put the characteristic agricultural products of his hometown on the Internet to increase the way to get rich.
