  • The profession of private detective is democratizing in France.

There are about ten of them in the Lille metropolitan area.

  • Jonathan Carpentier is one of them.

Installed for three years in Lezennes, near Lille.

  • Since the end of the first confinement, he deals almost exclusively with cases of adultery.

More fantasized than truly known, the profession of private detective is ultimately less a dream job than a priesthood as its exercise is laborious.

However, more and more of them are trying their luck and the competition is starting to be felt, including in metropolitan Lille, where there are about ten of them.

Relatively limited by law, the missions of directors of investigations are generally equitably divided between economic investigations and private research.

The coronavirus crisis has also exploded the demands for this second category.

It's now been three years since Jonathan Carpentier set up E3P, his private investigation agency in Lezennes, near Lille.

At 29, the detective easily talks about his job but is reluctant to show his face, "discretion requires".

And to do this job, which he has dreamed of since he was 14, Jonathan had to undergo rigorous training: “Fifteen years ago, all you had to do was register with the prefecture.

Today, you have to obtain a private research option right license and then be approved by the National Council for Private Security Activities, ”he explains.

"I almost only deal with adultery since confinement"

Since he was installed, the director of investigation has dealt with almost equal amounts of professional and private matters: “For companies, it's a lot of monitoring abusive sick leaves, theft or unfair competition. .

For private clients, it is essentially research for suspicion of adultery, ”explains the detective.

But this proportion was greatly upset with the arrival of the coronavirus health crisis.

“Containment has changed a lot of things.

We have almost nothing more than adultery and searches for people, ”notes Jonathan Carpentier.

The requests he deals with allow him to see that the confinement has "exploded a lot of couples": "The fact of having remained too much on each other, the discovery of strange things on the laptop of Mr. or Madam… I only did that between the two confinements, ”says the detective.

But beware, it does not do everything and especially not just anything.

“To monitor someone, there has to be a contract between the applicant and that person, whether it is a marriage or an employment contract.

You cannot ask me to follow his girlfriend or his boyfriend, ”he insists.

To change his vaudevillesque files, Jonathan Carpentier is currently investigating a darker case: “I was hired by a lawyer to research the background of a man suspected of touching a minor.

This should make it possible to substantiate a complaint which will be filed with the prosecutor, ”he declared in a deliberately vague manner.

A file that we could therefore quickly find in the columns of
