Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the International Publishers Association, considered that “The House of Wisdom in Sharjah is not only a cultural and tourist landmark, but rather an architectural and creative embodiment of Sharjah’s message towards knowledge and writers, a message that the emirate sends not only to the local community, but to all Arab and international readers. We emphasize in all the details of the teacher that awareness is an experience of openness and continuity that does not achieve its effect except by appreciating the original identity of our culture, understanding its sources of strength, and benefiting from it.

She added that “societies rise when they are aware of the history of their culture and realize the size of the contributions of their scholars, writers and artists, and appreciate what has been accomplished to continue the process of building, science and knowledge. The historical center, which was a center of enlightenment in the Arab and Islamic civilization, and honors Arab and Muslim scholars with the names of its halls.

This came on the sidelines of the reception of Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Minister of Culture and Youth Noura Al Kaabi, during the minister's visit to the House of Wisdom, the latest model for future libraries at his headquarters in Sharjah, last Thursday.

The visit witnessed an introduction to the halls, laboratories and spaces that the "House of Wisdom" allocates to education, reading, and holding events and exhibitions, in addition to the fast printing services offered by "espresso books", the manufacture of laboratory models, and access to rare books.

A big plus

For her part, Noura Al Kaabi said, “The House of Wisdom constitutes a great addition to the cultural and tourist attractions in the UAE, and expresses a great vision that believes that investing in human knowledge and awareness is the real and fundamental guarantee for a more civilized and enlightening future, and at the same time it confirms the mission of Sharjah and the vision of the owner. His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who believes that the book and human building are the basis for the renaissance of societies and the pillar of their development.

She added: “The House of Wisdom provides a pioneering model, not at the local or Gulf level, but at the Arab and global level for future libraries, as they are not only places for reading and research, but a space for dialogue, learning and knowledge acquisition, and this is what strengthens the trends of cultural action in the Emirates calling for opening the horizon for interaction. Providing opportunities to discover energies and talents and providing platforms for building the individual and enhancing the environment for promoting his awareness and taste at all levels.

Between the halls

During the visit, Director of the House of Wisdom Marwa Al-Akroubi gave an introduction to the facilities and halls of the "House", and stopped at the contents of the library, which will contain 305 thousand books in various cultural, literary and knowledge fields, including 105 thousand paper books, more than 200 thousand electronic books, and the "Treasury of Wisdom", which It will include rare books and publications that will be acquired from around the world, and now includes 100 books in Braille, and 2,400 large-sized books, in addition to the first eight volumes issued by the Sharjah Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language, which documents for the first time the history of the vocabulary of the language of Dhad and the changes in its use over 17 centuries ( From the pre-Islamic era to the present day).

During the visit, Noura Al-Kaabi looked at the "knowledge balcony", which are spaces for personal study, overlooking the external courtyard of the place, and the Al-Rasheed Hall, named after Caliph Harun Al-Rashid, which accommodates 120 people and is designed to host seminars, presentations and discussion sessions. She also got acquainted with the space of the "reader." Al Saghir »intended for children from three to 10 years old for learning and reading.

Marwa Al-Aqroubi provided detailed explanations and information about those facilities and halls, and was introduced to two of the most prominent facilities in the House of Wisdom: the first is the "Al-Jazari Laboratory", which came in recognition of the scientific and cognitive contributions made by the scientist Badi Al-Zaman Al-Jazari (1136-1206 AD), who is considered one of the most important inventors in History, and the laboratory contains advanced techniques in printing.

The second is a "ladies' diwan", which is dedicated to women and gives them the privacy to enjoy reading and holding meetings and seminars.

Marwa Al-Akroubi stopped at the Al-Khwarizmi Gallery, which hosts this period, the two exhibitions of the artist Wafa Bilal (168: 01), which recalls the cultural loss that befell the Library of the College of Arts at the University of Baghdad, which was burned in 2003, as more than 70 thousand books were turned into ashes, and an exhibition. The "Ashes Series", which provides photographs of a group of miniature models of scenes of destruction caused by the war in Iraq.

The visit included a stop at the "Hikma Square", which is characterized by an open-ceiling design decorated with natural plants. It also contains water fountains that give the building a modern natural setting that gives the visitor a unique cultural experience and provides it with a calm atmosphere, in addition to the meeting rooms designed in three different designs: the majlis, Meeting rooms, a co-working space overlooking Wisdom Square and soundproofed for privacy.
