  • The Minister of Health argued that the rate of adherence of caregivers to vaccination could sometimes be lower than that of the rest of the population.

  • If caregivers traditionally scramble less against the flu, this is also the case for the rest of the population.

  • The DTP vaccine (against diphtheria, tetanus and polio) is mandatory for caregivers, who have high coverage rates against these diseases.

The time for “reluctance” about the Covid-19 vaccination has passed among caregivers, Olivier Véran assured Thursday, during a press conference with Prime Minister Jean Castex.

Coming back to these "reluctance", the minister explained that "it is not rare that the rate of adherence of caregivers to vaccination is a little lower than the rate of adherence of the general population".

FAKE OFF

Only the DTP vaccine (against diphtheria, tetanus and polio) is compulsory for all caregivers.

The hepatitis B vaccine is compulsory for caregivers who are at risk of being exposed to it.

The data available for these vaccines are old: they date from 2009. Coverage with these two vaccines among caregivers was high, at over 88% on average.

Better rates than in the rest of the French population.

More caregivers vaccinated against measles and pertussis

Other vaccines (influenza, pertussis, measles, chickenpox) are recommended for caregivers.

"Historical data" has shown "that the vaccine coverage for these infections among these professionals was insufficient", estimated Public Health France in 2019.

A study commissioned by the public health body, published in November 2020, estimates the rate of health coverage among caregivers working in health establishments (excluding Ephad) in 2019 for measles at 73%, an increase of 23 points per year. compared to 2009.

Also on the rise, vaccination against pertussis: 54% of these professionals were estimated to be covered.

The coverage rate against chickenpox was estimated at 26%.

These rates are not uniform: they vary according to the region, the age or the profession of the caregiver.

What about the flu vaccination, which needs to be renewed every winter and whose effectiveness varies every year?

35% of caregivers working in health establishments had done so during the 2018-2019 season.

This figure hides disparities between professions: 67% of doctors had done so, 48% of midwives, 36% of nurses and only 21% of nursing assistants.

Several hospitals have carried out campaigns to increase these rates.

In the rest of the population, influenza vaccination does not convince, here too, all those to whom it is intended: 48.3% of them had received this injection in 2015-2016 (date of the latest data available on Public health France).
