300 publications ... a gift from the Heritage Institute to the House of Wisdom

The head of the Sharjah Heritage Institute, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Musallam, confirmed that the House of Wisdom, the new teacher in Sharjah, is one of the most important and largest cultural projects that have been linked to Sharjah as the global capital of the book, adding that the institute was keen to gift the House of Wisdom 300 of its specialized publications, in printed and electronic copies.

This came during a visit by a delegation from Sharjah Heritage to the House of Wisdom, an innovative project that embodies the latest model for future libraries in the world.

The Director of the House of Wisdom, Marwa Obaid Al-Akroubi, briefed the delegation on the facilities, books and activities that the new cultural teacher contains in various fields of knowledge and science and for various segments of society, as well as the services it provides to individuals and entities.

The institute’s delegation visited the artist Wafa Bilal’s exhibition, titled “168: 01,” which is a reminder of the cultural loss that befell the Library of the College of Art at the University of Baghdad, as it was burned in 2003, and more than 70,000 books have turned to ashes.

Al-Muslim expressed his happiness to visit the House of Wisdom, and to spend a day full of knowledge, adding, “The Institute is keen to continue protecting and preserving heritage and passing it on for generations, through various activities, programs and practical, field, scientific and academic activities, in addition to publishing and various books, as we have issued hundreds of specialized books in the world Heritage, which is an important reference for researchers and specialists. It is available in the institute’s heritage library, with a wide variety of books in various fields and fields of knowledge. It is also present in various libraries and book fairs.

Al-Muslim added, "Here we are today offering 300 publications, including a gift to the House of Wisdom Library, in printed copies and electronic copies, which support the activities of the House of Wisdom in the form of live borrowing, virtual borrowing and the express printing service."

The House of Wisdom integrates, in an innovative way, the two concepts of the library and the social and cultural forum, and turns them into a social platform for learning and knowledge, and it has more than 305,000 books in various cultural, literary and cognitive fields, including 11,000 in different languages, 105,000 paper books, and nearly 200,000 books. Electronic, in addition to a separate library for children containing more than 2000 books, and the library for the adolescents section, which includes about 3000 books.
