The number of coronavirus patients treated in intensive care increased slightly on Friday, from 3,633 to 3,680 patients, with 324 new people admitted to these services in the last twenty-four hours, according to data from Public Health France.
In recent days, the number of the most serious cases, treated in intensive care units, has remained around 3,600 people.
This level is comparable to that seen in early December but remains far from the peak of the second wave of autumn (4,900) and above all, of the first wave in spring (7,000).
Less than 25,000 people hospitalized
For the second day in a row, the number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized remained below the 25,000 mark, with 24,765 hospital patients on Friday against 24,891 the day before.
Since the start of the epidemic, the Covid-19 has caused 88,274 deaths, including 63,126 in hospitals (with 239 additional deaths in twenty-four hours) and 25,174 in nursing homes and other medico-social establishments (i.e. 201 more since last update Tuesday).
More than 23,000 new cases of Covid-19
The number of new cases of contamination rose to 23,507 in twenty-four hours and the positivity rate, which measures the percentage of positive tests on all tests, is 7.3%, stable since Sunday.
Regarding vaccination, 3,392,269 people received at least one injection, according to the health agency.
The government intends to speed up vaccination "using all the doses already available," Health Minister Olivier Véran said on Twitter on Friday.
From this weekend, tens of thousands of French people will be able to have access to it "in an accelerated manner in the departments most affected by the epidemic", he added.
