Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder has rejected calls for a move away from the seven-day incidence as a decisive measure for assessing the situation in the corona pandemic.

"The incidence is still by far the best and most reliable value," said the CSU chief on Friday in his government statement in the state parliament in Munich. From his point of view, it makes no sense to wait until the number of corona deaths increases again .

"Anyone waiting for death rates has missed the time to act," said Söder.

The Prime Minister also defended the concept adopted by Bavaria from the federal and state governments to gradually relax the corona measures.

There is no such thing as a blind flight, but rather a "breathing matrix" that can lead to closures again if this is appropriate.

"With all the understanding and anger that the restrictions mean, there is no reason to let up," said Söder.

The British virus variant is gaining the upper hand, and this is particularly noticeable in the regions on the Bavarian external borders.
