Since last month, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has been conducting genetic analysis on approximately 10% of all positive individuals, which has doubled since last month, in order to investigate the spread of the mutated coronavirus, which is said to be highly infectious. Furthermore, we plan to strengthen the system with the cooperation of the private sector.

Mutant viruses have been confirmed in 14 people in Tokyo so far, but two of them were found by genetic analysis in Tokyo.

Genetic analysis in Tokyo has been conducted on specimens that have been brought to the "Health and Safety Research Center" in Tokyo since December last year and have been determined to be positive for the new coronavirus.

Furthermore, from the 8th of last month, analysis was started at one private testing institution, which analyzes about 10% of all positive people in Tokyo.

Until then, it was about 5% of all positives, so it has doubled.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government plans to further strengthen the system with the cooperation of private inspection organizations in order to grasp the overall picture.

Mitsuo Kaku, a specially appointed professor at Tohoku Medical and Pharmaceutical University, who chairs the "Expert Board" in Tokyo, said, "I would like to expand the system for analysis and enhance it so that the whole picture can be inferred."
