Ten mosques closed in Ile-de-France for three different reasons.

The places of worship of Pré-Saint-Gervais, Sevran and Neuilly-Plaisance in Seine-Saint-Denis, those of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, Vitry-Sur-Seine and Montmagny in Val-de-Marne, and those de Goussainville and Villiers-le-Bel in Val-d'Oise were closed for non-compliance with safety standards.

To reopen, they will have to comply.

As part of "judicial or administrative proceedings", the Bobigny mosque was closed while that of Pantin is closed for "link with terrorist activity" after the assassination of Samuel Paty.

In the coming weeks in 33 departments, 89 other mosques suspected of "separatism" will be controlled, announced Wednesday Gerald Darmanin in the Senate.

Controlled which intervene after the entry into force of the law “reinforcing the respect for the principles of the Republic” which provides for an expansion of the reasons for closing places of worship.

Article 44 of this text establishes a procedure of closure for two months by the state authorities of places of worship theaters of speeches, ideas, theories, activities inciting hatred or violence, or tending to encourage them.

2,500 places of Muslim worship in France

Before these planned checks, 17 mosques have already closed "in recent weeks" including ten in Ile-de-France.

In addition, "ten places of worship suspected of separatism" are currently "closed due to the health crisis or for work", detailed the ministry.

All these places of worship may be subject to "new controls" after the entry into force of the law and its new provisions, according to the ministry.

There are "2,500 Muslim places of worship in France," the Minister of the Interior said on Wednesday.
