The German-Islamic mosque association Ditib has distanced itself from anti-Semitic remarks by its former Göttingen chairman Mustafa Keskin.

"None of the postings and opinions of the said chairman can even begin to reflect an attitude that could be tolerated by a Ditib functionary," said the department head in the Ditib Federal Association, Zekeriya Altu, on Thursday the Evangelical Press Service (epd).

The Lower Saxony-Bremen regional association of Ditib had previously confirmed to the epd that Keskin had resigned from his position.

He is accused of spreading hateful messages against Jews and Armenians as well as conspiracy theories on social media.

The socialist youth organization "The Falcons" had made the allegations public.

For example, Keskin described Israeli soldiers as “Jewish dogs”.

Other pictures and posts suggested that Jews and Israelis were deliberately killing children.

In addition, Keskin has repeatedly used symbols of the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood.

Keskin's WhatsApp profile showed a picture of Donald Trump and Joe Biden as "old" and "new" puppets of investment banker Jacob Rothschild.

In anti-Semitic conspiracy myths and worldviews, the Rothschild family has long functioned as a placeholder for “the Jews” who ruled the financial markets, the governments and the world.

"We emphatically demanded the immediate resignation of the functionary"

Altu said the Ditib had "emphatically demanded the immediate resignation of the functionary, and he has complied with this demand."

At the same time, Ditib will process the processes, "because in this case there was no one-off action, but several activities over a longer period of time".

As Ditib chairman in Göttingen, Keskin was involved in interreligious dialogue for many years.

Among other things, he took part in the “Round Table of the Religions of Abraham”.

Representatives of Christian, Jewish and Muslim communities in Göttingen meet regularly at this “round table”.

Ditib is the largest Sunni-Islamic organization in Germany.

It is under the control of the State Bureau for Religious Affairs of Turkey, which in turn reports directly to the Turkish President.

The Ditib imams trained at state theological universities in Turkey are sent to Germany for five years and are de facto officials of the Turkish state, from which they are also paid.
