The Standing Vaccination Commission Stiko (Stiko) apparently recommends the use of the corona vaccine from Astra-Zeneca also for people older than 65 years.

This is reported by the "FAZ", citing a statement by Stiko.

Accordingly, a voting period within the Stiko expires at noon.

Then the federal states and specialist societies would be informed.

According to the report, it is considered likely that the recommendation will be accepted after the so-called confidential opinion has been issued.

Then the Corona Vaccination Ordinance of the Federal Ministry of Health under Jens Spahn (CDU) must be changed.

From next week, the vaccine could be used in people over 65 years of age.

The federal and state governments had expected a short-term decision by the Stiko on the recommendation of the vaccine for the population group over 65 years.

Already after the Corona summit on Wednesday, the heads of government referred to study results from Great Britain and Israel, where the British-Swedish vaccine has also been administered to the elderly for weeks.

Accordingly, the AstraZeneca agent is also highly effective in the elderly population.

Due to the lack of studies, the Stiko had previously only allowed the vaccine for under 65-year-olds.

The decision is also blamed for the poor image of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
