On the other end of the line, no answer.

And the dial tone ends up ringing "busy".

This Wednesday, in several towns in the Alpes-Maritimes, the police call number is for absent subscribers.

"The 17 is temporarily unavailable," confirmed the prefecture in a tweet.

"Following a technical malfunction, the number 17, which allows you to reach Emergency Police, is not currently operational," state services indicate, not specifying a time limit for returning to normal.

The inhabitants of the "police zone", of the municipalities of Antibes, Beausoleil, Cagnes-Sur-Mer, Cannes, Grasse, Le Cannet, Menton, Nice, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Vallauris and Villefranche, are concerned and "invited to dial 112", the telephone number reserved for emergency calls throughout the European Union.
