Two deputy mayors of Ryugasaki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, were arrested by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department on suspicion of violating the Government-manufactured Conflict Prevention Law, alleging that they had leaked information on bidding in advance over the facility renovation work of a junior high school ordered by the city.

Two people were arrested: Mitsuo Kawamura (65), the deputy mayor of Ryugasaki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and Keiichiro Kawakita (71), a director of the city's Council of Social Welfare.

The Metropolitan Police Department and others have been searching for related parties such as Ryugasaki City Hall since noon on the 3rd.

According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, Deputy Mayor Kawamura will provide Kawakita with information on the companies participating in the bidding over six general competitive biddings, including the renovation work for junior high school facilities that took place in December last year. There is a suspicion of violating the government-manufactured bid prevention law for the leak.

It is suspected that Deputy Mayor Kawamura, who received a request from Mr. Kawakita, obtained information through multiple staff members and leaked it.

The Metropolitan Police Department and others are investigating the details of the leaked information, assuming that it was leaked from Kawakita to a contractor with a base in the city.
