After having successfully completed the film adaptation of Asterix and Cleopatra, Alain Chabat will adapt the album "Le combat des chefs" from Asterix to an animated series for Netflix.

For Anne Goscinny, daughter of the author, it is "the best news of the year" because the director has, she says, "understood everything in mind" of the comic strip.

INTERVIEW

"We are in 50 BC. All of Gaul is occupied by the Romans ... All of it? No! Because a village populated by irreducible Gauls resists the invader."

This sentence which opens all Asterix albums should soon be heard on Netflix.

It will not be before 2023, but the famous Gallic will be entitled to his series.

And its director will be none other than Alain Chabat, already behind the film

Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra

in the cinema.

This one had cardboard with 14 million entries.

And the news of an animated series delights Anne Goscinny, the daughter of the author of the comic book, René Goscinny.

"The best news of the year"

"I can tell you what we do not see on the radio: my smile! It is, I think, the best news of the year", she enthuses at the microphone of Europe 1, even if this is the first time that Alain Chabat has rubbed shoulders with the cartoon genre.

"Of all the people who have taken over, interested in Asterix, Alain Chabat is undeniably the one who has succeeded the best in the exercise. He has managed to transgress the codes put in place while remaining faithful. He is a kind of incredible alchemy and with

Mission Cleopatra, that

is precisely what he did. Alain understood everything in my father's mind. "

Alain Chabat will thus adapt one of the cult (and hilarious) Asterix albums,

Le Combat des Chefs

, published in 1966.

Netflix, "a chance" to democratize the character

"It is also a chance for Asterix to have access to Netflix", adds Anne Goscinny.

"Today the whole planet has access to [this platform]. People who don't know Asterix might have the opportunity to discover the character, so I think that's very, very nice news."

Which will perhaps allow Asterix to finally conquer America!
