de France 2 to talk about vaccination against Covid-19 on Monday, Olivier Véran, the Minister of Health, declared that France was "one of the only European countries to display such statistics in terms of protection of more fragile ”.

  • If the vaccination of nursing home residents has a very high rate - nearly 83% - 25.6% of those 80 and over are vaccinated in France, a rate almost similar to that in Germany.

But much lower than those recorded in England or Poland.

Nearly 83% of Ehpad residents have received a first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

A high figure, which the government welcomes.

Guest of the

20 Hours

of France 2 Monday evening, the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran welcomed this high rate of vaccination, adding that France is "one of the only European countries to display such statistics in terms of protection of the most fragile" .

A statement reminiscent of that of Jean Castex who, at his last press conference on February 25, compared the vaccination rate in France of people aged 80 and over to that observed among our closest neighbors.

FAKE OFF

What data does the Minister of Health rely on for this assertion?

Contacted by

20 Minutes

, the Ministry of Health had not responded to the publication of our article.

For older people, France is not the European country that currently has the highest vaccination coverage, according to data from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

26.7% of French seniors aged 80 and over have received at least a first dose of a vaccine against Covid-19.

In Poland, a country of 38 million inhabitants, 35.6% of these seniors and more have already received a first injection.

Less populated than France, Portugal, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Finland also have higher coverage among those over 80.

To see the highest vaccination rates in Europe, we must look to the island states: Iceland, Malta and Cyprus have rates ranging from 44 to 72%.

High figures, which can in particular be explained by the smaller number of inhabitants of these countries.

On the scale of the whole of Europe, the prize goes to England, where the vaccination campaign began on December 8, before the rest of the European continent.

94% of people over 80 have at least received a first dose, according to data stopped on February 21.

Among our German neighbors, the coverage rate for those over 80 was 26% on February 24, as

Le Monde

had noted

, a figure almost similar to France.

The Spanish Ministry of Health does not provide detailed data for the types of population vaccinated.

Insufficient data on the vaccination of caregivers

Regarding the age group of 70-79 years, France (11.4%) is in the lead of the EU behind Poland (15.8%) and ahead of Croatia (9.1%), according to the 'ECDC, which however does not have data for Germany, Italy or Spain.

For other priority populations for vaccination (caregivers, people aged 50 and over with co-morbidities, people with disabilities residing in certain structures, patients with serious pathologies), the ECDC does not provide a follow-up table. European level.

Only a dozen countries have reported vaccination rates for caregivers… which is not the case in France.

The only data available is the percentage of professionals working in nursing homes or long-term care units who have received at least one dose.

It stood at 32.6% as of February 13.
