SYSPEO / SIPA

  • The prefect announced last week that stores of more than 5,000 m2, non-food or medical, were to close.

  • After publication of the decree, the management of Polygone Riviera announced the opening of its center on Tuesday.

  • The open-air shopping center has adapted its reception capacity to increase from 9,000 to 4,000 customers on its site.

"The Cagnes-sur-Mer shopping center of 70,000 m2

is closed from this Tuesday and for a minimum of fifteen days, ”indicated the management of Polygone Riviera last week after the announcements of new restrictions from the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes.

Finally, "the legal analysis of these texts shows that this decree does not apply to open-air centers such as Polygone", she reiterated in a press release.

The center can therefore reopen on Tuesday.

Bernard Gonzalez, the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes recognized that “the texts did not seem to target open-air shopping centers”.

He admits that he is not "in favor of the concentration of the population on the site" but to be taken "by the rules of law".

"The wish that we expressed could not be expressed in a formal way to allow the prohibition of this reopening".

The prefect nevertheless stressed that "even if Polygone reopens, stores of more than 5,000 m2 will have to remain closed".

Regarding Primark and Spring.

From 9,000 to 4,000 clients

In an interview with

Nice-Matin

, the director of Polygone Riviera, Hugo Rey, assured "to have done more" than what the new restrictions require.

“The gauge, one person for 15 m2 instead of 10 previously, is established in closed stores of more than 400 m2.

We have applied it throughout the center, he explains.

We could accommodate 9,000 customers, we have now grown to 4,000. "

Four Covid mediators are also on site to "monitor the aisles of the center, so that social distancing and the wearing of masks are well respected.

In each store too: an employee is responsible for monitoring the application of sanitary rules, ”he detailed in the columns of the regional daily.

To see if the prefect finds a legal loophole in the meantime to finally impose the closure of the site ... "The situation can change from hour to hour," he said Monday afternoon.
