I'm on vacation and watch the ice and snow fall in the Karwendel.

Yesterday I saw this crack in the ice, which runs for kilometers and straight through the glistening surface from east to west on the Sylvsteinspeicher.

Along this crack the wind blows over the lake and the mountains.

The warmer water passes over the edges of the ice, where it begins its destructive work: in a few days, the crack, which is only a few centimeters wide, will clearly divide the ice surface and provide air and water with even more attack surface.

The crack is the beginning of the end of the ice sheet: in two weeks the lake will be deep blue again and ready for spring, while the first rocky beetles are already blooming purple on its edges: the mountain summer is short. All life has to hurry and take what it can get. Like the SPD, where chairwoman Saskia Esken and her vice-president Kevin Kühnert are currently trying to raise their profile at the expense of party leaders Wolfgang Thierse and Gesine Schwan.
