The Sharjah Department of Culture celebrated the 24 winners of the Sharjah Prize for Arab Creativity (first edition) in its six fields.

The Director of Cultural Affairs in the Department, Secretary General of the Award, Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Qusayr, said during the virtual ceremony: “The 24th session of the award culminates in years of cultural work on young Arab writers in particular, with the support and patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council Ruler of Sharjah, to reveal hundreds of creative people in various Arab countries.

Al-Qusayr added during his speech at the ceremony attended by the head of the department, Abdullah Al-Owais: “The award is preparing to enter its 25th year, with a brilliance and generosity that has not changed over the past years. In the Arab cultural arena ».

The number of honorees reached 18 winners: seven from Egypt, four from Syria, and three from Iraq, while four winners came from Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Algeria.

Al-Qusayr added: “In recent years we used to celebrate with the winners of the Sharjah Prize for Arab Creativity side by side, but an emergency situation prevented that in this session, hoping that the meeting with you will be renewed at a later time.”

For his part, the Palestinian poet Ali Hassan Al-Nurani, the second winner in the field of poetry, for his collection "Nahar al-Ghazaleh", delivered the winners' speech through a video and audio visual recording.

He said: “Originally on my own behalf and on behalf of every writer, intellectual and interested in literature and creativity, I congratulate the Department of Culture for the success of the 24th session of the Sharjah Prize for Arab Creativity, despite the exceptional circumstances the world is going through caused by the pandemic. It enabled them to overcome difficulties in order to ensure the continuity and success of this session.

The audience also heard a poem from the first place winner in the field of poetry, Muhammad Hasan Salih al-Samarrai (Iraq), about his group “Three sides of the Sahara.
