When I look towards Hollywood I want to see famous people. No longer familiar faces, but mythical faces.
People for whose presence I have literally paid infinite times, every time I bought a movie ticket.
People who clicked on crazy headlines just because they included their names.
Yesterday's delivery of the Golden Globes lacked a lot of that
.
When the pandemic walks through the door, glamor leaps out the window.
I can assume having to zoom or Skype with my friends, but
I refuse to sustain my Hollywood mythomania based on a light ring and webcam.
The organizers of the 2021 Golden Globes gala, which took place last night (very last night, Spanish time), did not see it that way.
So
in an attempt to downplay the traditional red carpet coverage, they scored an insane television show even
more basic than the magazines produced during the
hardcore
lockdown
last spring.
A zoom session between unfamiliar faces that occasionally incorporated a popular face.
Understanding as popular Carey Mulligan, Kate Hudson or Vanessa Kirby, magnificent actresses (no, not Kate Hudson) but very minor stars.
With that extremely boring structure we were entertaining ("entertaining") the wait for authentic glamor.
And of prizes.
But especially glamor, which is what the awards generate.
And with what they put gasoline on that machine called, effectively, Hollywood.
Hollywood
, the ridiculous series by Ryan Murphy, was
precisely
one of the worst of the night.
The other was
Christopher Nolan's
Tenet
.
A very different series and film that, however, before its collapse, boasted similar ambitions:
Tenet
, with its premiere against the current, failed to redirect the conversation about the future of theatrical cinema
;
Hollywood
was immediately read as a childish and interested churro, rather than as an accurate settling of accounts with the injustices of the industry it portrays.
All wrong.
Luckily, we have
The Crown
, which with its fourth season was made with a few balloons high
.
Olivia Colman didn't taste it this year, but she didn't need it either.
Every time one of his co-stars was awarded (Emma Corrin, Josh O'Connor, Gillian Anderson) the filmmakers of the gala prodded Colman's home camera, genuinely happy to see his children - and his nemesis - succeed.
Let's not rule out that with
its fifth season, which will involve a new total cast change,
the Peter Morgan series will once again sweep.
Nor that with
retired
Schitt's Creek
,
Ted Lasso
Expand His Power At Television Awards.
Yesterday a Jason Sudeikis in a sweatshirt won the award for best television actor in a comedy for the Apple TV + series.
Together they prevented
one of our nightmares from coming true
: that
Emily in Paris
managed to turn her two insulting nominations into a prize.
The Darren Star and Lily "Daughter of Phil" Collins series has been this year's illustration of
a controversy older than coughing
.
That the members of the association of the foreign press in Hollywood are few and influential is something we have always known.
But that
none of them is black
, we wanted to find out does nothing.
In their sober and effective introduction to yesterday's gala, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, one in New York and one in Los Angeles, were ironic about that.
Shortly afterwards, representatives of the association itself sang an institutional mea culpa that did not have time to clarify the luxurious trip to Paris with which many of its members were presented and that some saw as
nothing conspiratorial explanation of the nominations of the Netflix series
.
Next year it will be another series and another public relations campaign that will serve to explain to us AGAIN that influencing the vote of a group of killed is easy.
Signed: one killed.
Unlike the last Emmys, where the awards were handed out (or not handed out, which was much more fun) to the winners at their homes,
we hardly saw any physical Golden Globes last night
.
We do contemplate the Daisy Edgar-Jones (
Normal People
)
ceramic hob
or what Jared Leto tried to make us believe was his home.
We were also able to verify that sansevierias, the lazy plant, are not only in fashion in Spain, that Anya Taylor-Joy (awarded by
Lady's Gambit
) has supermodel make-up and that
the real stars show it in the worst circumstances.
What for you is a cute photo, for them is a Hermés campaign.
I mean Jodie Foster (awarded by
The Mauritanian
), his girl and the dog.
What pajamas.
What a sofa.
How close to them and what abyss separates us from their
allure
.
So yes.
Rosamund Pike, thanks to
the extremely uncomfortable
I Care a Lot
, won a well-deserved acting award that she received dressed as Molly Goddard and in a place that could well be a death star elevator.
So too.
Jane Fonda, present on a stage that she alone filled
, collected her honorary award with an appearance worthy of the deity that is while I theorized about whether Jeff Daniels (nominee for
Comey's Law
) had minimized his browser window to connect only just enough for the gala and Bill Murray had left a die of himself in front of the camera, dressed in a Hawaiian shirt.
David Fincher (
Mank
) took a shot after suffering
as Aaron Sorkin (
The Chicago 7 Trial
) beat him as a screenwriter
and Tracy Morgan mispronounced the title of the film with the shorter name.
The brilliant Tina Fey later said that it had made her feel very at home.
Very in
30 Rock
, come on.
Because we were all at home
.
Less, I want to believe, Frances McDormand, whom we never saw on the screen and whose sung award for
Nomadland
turned out to be for another, the semi-unknown Andra Day.
That award was presented by a
Joaquin Phoenix dressed as a Carglass store manager
and from here I ask someone to verify that Andra's name was on the card and that Joaquin did not decide on his own that the 2021 Golden Globes had to go to History not only as
the least glamorous ever
.
Let it be the last year that you do it to me like this.
