After a few weeks of digital trial and error, video meetings hold no secrets for many French people who have been telecommuting for a year.

Little by little, companies have put in place the tools to improve this remote operation.

And colleagues sometimes invent new sociability, such as a lunch or a drink on Zoom to keep the link.

But if remote meetings and meal tours by phone have become part of everyday life, they can be accompanied by a certain fatigue, especially hearing fatigue.

Spending the day with your nose on your screen (sometimes black) concentrating on what others say, experiencing feedback effects and changes in volume, is no easy task.

No more open space, but other noises

To the point that some doctors are starting to warn about the not necessarily positive effects of teleworking on hearing.

An Ipsos survey for National Hearing Day (JNA) revealed in October that teleworking does not always limit the impact of noise, or even could make it worse.

Thus, for more than 80% of teleworkers questioned, noise has repercussions on their behavior and could lead to the appearance of hearing problems.

Obviously, working conditions are not the same for everyone.

Some have quiet working sessions, in a quiet office, far from the hustle and bustle of the open space.

Others have five Zoom meetings in their living room with a companion also on the phone, or even toddlers playing (and screaming) next door.

So much so that for some, the idea of putting on a headset to follow yet another conference or call a friend in the evening is a foil for their sore ears.

Already before the health crisis, many French people used their headphones for too long and at too high a volume.

We can imagine that teleworking has not slowed down this trend.

And you, noise level, do you saturate visios and phone calls to loved ones that you cannot see first-hand?

Have you had tinnitus or other hearing problems?

Is teleworking good or bad for your hearing?

Did you check that you had not lost your hearing with a professional?

Have you changed your habits?

Bought a helmet or other tools to make this telecommuting more comfortable?
