In the corona pandemic, the police are warning of possible fraud in the digital registration of trips to Germany.

According to the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office, several cases have been reported in the Free State in which travelers paid for an alleged registration via a private Internet portal without their data being passed on to German authorities.

The number of cases has so far been in the single-digit range, said a spokesman.

Among other things, a 34-year-old landed at Memmingen Airport at the end of January with a certificate that did not meet the requirements for entry registration.

The woman had not been registered with the German authorities, although, according to police reports, she had paid 25 euros for the alleged registration on a private online portal.

The police in Upper Franconia also repeatedly report cases of fraud when registering for the country.

"People don't know their way around, they may not speak German and end up on such a page," said a spokeswoman.

"There they fill out all the data and in the end they should pay." In Upper Franconia, people from the neighboring Czech Republic are mainly affected, but the scam is aimed at all cross-border commuters.

The police therefore advise you to always use the free internet portal of the Robert Koch Institute to register.

"Only evidence generated by this website will be accepted in cross-border controls," said a spokesman for the State Criminal Police Office.

However, caution should be exercised: Operators of fraudulent websites use similar internet addresses.

If you have to pay for registration with a private provider, this does not automatically mean that it is a scam, said the spokesman for the Swabian South / West Police Headquarters, Dominic Geißler.

"If it is a premium service, for example for people who do not speak German, it would not be a fraud." In this case, interested parties would have to check the portal carefully.

The registration is unproblematic, "if you go straight to the right website," said police spokesman Geissler.
