TEPCO announced on the 28th that it has completed all the work on the removal of nuclear fuel from the spent fuel pool, which has been underway at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Unit 3.

Unit 3 will be the first to complete the removal from the spent fuel pool of Units 1 to 3 that caused the meltdown.

The spent fuel pool on the top floor of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Unit 3, where the nuclear fuel melted down, contained 566 nuclear fuels at the time of the accident, and TEPCO became a safe facility on the premises from April. We have been working on the transfer.

Then, on the 28th, it was announced that the last six nuclear fuels had been transferred and all the removal was completed.

Due to the hydrogen explosion at Unit 3, it took time to remove and decontaminate debris, and the start was delayed by 4 years and 4 months from the original schedule.

In addition, due to the high radiation dose at the site, it has been necessary to take difficult measures such as making a special device and performing remote control.

This is the first time that the removal of nuclear fuel from the spent fuel pool has been completed for Units 1 to 3, which caused a meltdown in the second unit following Unit 4.

The remaining Units 1 and 2 are scheduled to start taking out work in the future, and the start time is from 2027 at the earliest for Unit 1 and from 2024 at the earliest for Unit 2.

TEPCO says, "We would like to make use of the experience of Unit 3 and proceed with the remaining two units with the highest priority on safety."
