The prefecture of Guadeloupe noted this Saturday an "acceleration of the recovery" of the Covid-19 epidemic on the island and is worried about the "very probable presence of a new variant".

"The first five days of this week on the archipelago" showed that the spread of the epidemic, which had stagnated for about twenty weeks, is intensifying, according to the prefecture of Guadeloupe.

"The incidence rate over seven rolling days is around 90/100 000 inhabitants and the positivity rate has exceeded 8, dangerously approaching the alert threshold (10)", specifies the same source.

Towards a "partial or general curfew"

Tuesday, during the weekly press point on the local health situation, the authorities had identified 23 people hospitalized.

This Saturday, there were 4 more, including 9 patients in intensive care.

The prefecture also identifies "16 clusters, 10 of which are recent ones under investigation".

With the death of a man "under 55", the number of deaths linked to Covid-19 reaches 158 people on the island.

With 50 cases identified in a single day, the number of confirmed cases of the so-called English variant "continues to increase" and worries the authorities, who have also detected "another variant" under analysis.

As of Tuesday, the prefect Alexandre Rochate had announced to reinforce health measures, such as the increase of the gauges in the places of assembly (stadiums, supermarkets, swimming pool, etc.).

"If the degradation observed over the past two weeks" and especially "since Monday" continues, the prefect does not exclude other measures such as closed doors for sporting events, the restriction of access to beaches and rivers, and even speaks of going as far as "partial or general curfew".
