After a personal accident at the exit of the Brussels-Midi station, the circulation of TGV and some Eurostar and Thalys was interrupted this Saturday around 7 am between Lille and Brussels, announced the SNCF.

“A personal accident took place early this morning at the exit of the Bruxelles-midi station.

From around 7:00 a.m., traffic has been completely interrupted between the Lille-Europe and Bruxelles-Midi stations in both directions.

A dozen trains were impacted, delayed or limited in Lille Europe, without being able to go back to Brussels, ”explained a spokesperson for the Hauts-de-France regional management of SNCF.

Substitution buses

In addition to these TGVs, "some Thalys and Eurostar trains are concerned, in particular a Brussels / London return trip via Lille and two Thalys return trips which are disrupted," he said.

“Substitute buses have been set up to transport customers between these two cities”, with departures delayed by approximately 1h30 to 2h00, and a journey time of around two hours by bus.

"For now, three buses have left for Brussels and two from Brussels to Lille", detailed this spokesperson at around 1:30 pm.

Disruptions until the end of the day

“TGVs from Brussels are trains that generally go to the south-east of France, via Lille”.

Passengers transported by bus can therefore "take a TGV route from Lille", he added.

An investigation is underway in Belgium to determine the causes of the accident but the resumption of traffic is "estimated around 3:00 pm", said SNCF around 2:30 pm.

"Disruptions should nevertheless last all day (...) But in the current context, due to health restrictions, the transport plan had been reduced and the number of passengers and trains are well below" the usual traffic, concluded this source.
