The highly contagious coronavirus mutant B.1.1.7 has been detected in a doctor's office employee in Düsseldorf who had contact with up to 450 people.

The city announced on Saturday.

The follow-up of the contact persons is in full swing.

The employee is said to have continued to work despite symptoms of illness.

The doctor's office was closed.

Employees in the health department are currently trying to reach all contact persons, especially patients in the practice, promptly by phone, the city said.

As a precaution, quarantine is being ordered for all contact persons of the medical staff.

The public order office and the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians were informed.

An evaluation of the contact persons is expected on Monday at the earliest.

The virus mutation B.1.1.7 is considered to be significantly more contagious and also more dangerous than the original virus.

According to its own information, Düsseldorf has had all positive PCR samples from the city test center and the city's mobile test services tested for mutations since the beginning of February.
