Since the beginning of the pandemic, it has been prophesied that yoga pants and jogging pants will dominate everyday life even after the crisis.

But then the first rays of sunshine come, pulling you out of the sadness of lockdown into the fresh air and possibly on a new extra lap away from the usual walk route.

With these early spring feelings, you can finally buy a coffee-to-go from the new café in the neighboring district or feel the energy again to meet someone who has been amicably neglected in the past few months for a walk.

Everything that can be celebrated as the highlight of the daily schedule in such a pandemic.

The sloppy look not only suddenly seems pitiful, the usual fashionable companions no longer feel as suitable equipment for the weather.

Especially when the joy of the spark of normality and social life is clouded, because in the rollercoaster of the weather you suddenly begin to sweat in an overly thick woolen coat, the winter scarf suddenly feels bulky around your neck and you are on the other side the cold wind that blows through your sweatpants has to stoically endure during a long walk.

Have we really forgotten how to dress properly in a few months?

No.

It is the annual, fashionably demanding transition period, which with transition jackets and transition shoes fits perfectly with the current transition state of life.

And annoying.

At this point, however, one should not ponder too long whether this lockdown has now sealed that of fashion as well as the demise of any other culture.

Fortunately, reviving a rational sense of clothing is easier to implement than that of the bar scene or the art world.

Seven tips for the weather-related capricious transition period.

Jeans instead of trousers

In winter it is actually recommended to wear leggings instead of jeans, as special stretch fabrics can adapt better to colder climates and a disadvantage of heavy denim is that it can easily take on outside temperatures.

Once the jeans have gotten cold, you can hardly warm them up with your own skin temperature.

But it is different in early spring, when the temperatures are close to 20 degrees.

The main problem is the cold wind at this time of year.

That is why the best loose fitting jeans * wins, as the dense fabric is less wind-permeable.

This also means that chic, air-permeable trousers and good old sweatpants are better left in the closet during these transitional months.

If you have a choice when it comes to jeans, you should opt for bootcut or straight models instead of tight-fitting skinny jeans, such as the well-known "501" from Levis * or Mum jeans for women.

Because if there is more space in the jeans, the said cold denim fabric does not come into permanent contact with the skin and the space between the skin and the fabric can also warm up.

Don't dare to wear sneakers too early

The snow has melted, no rain announced, and it won't be too muddy outside: the temptation is great that you can immediately throw your winter boots into the closet at the first rays of sunshine and finally be able to wear sneakers again.

However, these are still justified in the transition period.

Those who rely on too thin sneakers made of materials such as canvas will quickly get cold feet in windy weather or on asphalt.

If you stay true to the boots for a few more weeks, they don't necessarily have to be thick moon boots like those from the ski slope.

There are also boots that have thick soles and waterproof materials to keep your feet warm, but don't look clunky like those from a hiking trip.

For women, these are tough combat boots * that will continue to be a fashionably accepted alternative to sneakers for the whole of 2021.

Chelsea boots * are one of the classy unisex trends that are also less wind-permeable thanks to the lack of laces.

In addition, the combat boots from Doc Martens * remain a recommendation in 2021 as well, they are a robust classic in any weather and, contrary to their reputation, do not feel like a block on your foot in reality.

The best jacket for spring

For a long time, transition jackets stood for a lot, but rarely for a good fashion style.

They were practical, comfortable and functional.

The word transition jacket already sounded so narrow-minded that you lose your appetite while shopping online.

Fortunately, there are four new trends that work equally for both women and men and no longer need to be ashamed of.

The hippest thing the online shops have to offer are blouson jackets * made of nylon.

The pioneer in this material was Prada, the label had already shown the technical material on the catwalk in the 1990s.

It is important that the zipper jacket has a boxy cut and wide fabric cuffs.

Another unisex trend is much more rustic than the high-tech blousons.

Lumberjack jackets with checked patterns * usually look no thicker than a flannel shirt on the outside, but have a warm quilted lining on the inside.

Since the "Lumber Jackets" appeared on the catwalks of Miu Miu and Isabel Marant, they have also been seen with pleasure by townspeople outside of the hiking trails.

When to wear a trench coat and when to wear a wax jacket?

If you prefer a more elegant look and are looking for good rain protection for the suit, the trench coat is recommended.

It doesn't always have to be the classic from Burberry *, but it is definitely worth investing in good quality with this timeless classic.

However, the trench coat * is only for sunny days, the high-quality material does not withstand heavy rain unscathed - and certainly not warm enough.

If you don't want to look so chic and if you expect a rain shower, waxed jackets * give you comfortable freedom of movement that are both wind- and waterproof.

The coating gets a nicer patina every time it is worn.

If you don't want to say goodbye to your winter coat for now and still want it a little more airy, you can simply put it loosely over your shoulders in the street style professional manner.

Many layers are better than one thick layer of wool

The good old "onion look" that grandmothers preached.

The principle is almost self-explanatory and applies equally to women and men.

A shirt as a base that you can put in your pants and with which you warm your back.

A shirt that gives the whole thing a little cool, preferably in jeans or made of coarse linen.

Then wear a light wool sweater at low temperatures, preferably one made of thin cashmere, as it can adapt better to body heat.

Why the effort of several light layers when you are just as well equipped with a thick sweater?

The advantage is shown by the unpredictability of the weather in February and March.

Aside from the fact that heavy wool makes you sweat faster, you can't just take off a warm winter sweater worn alone when the sun comes out.

Those who want to take a particularly professional approach to the “layering” look wear everything in monochrome in similar colors.

The right scarf

A rule of thumb applies here: the warmer the jacket, the thinner the scarf can be.

So if you wear a thick winter coat, you can wear a thin fabric scarf made of cotton without running the risk of your neck getting too cold.

With thinner coats, such as trench coats or blousons, you should at best have a wool scarf with you in the transition period.

It is not only a fashionable recommendation of the season that it has an oversize size * that you can put over your shoulders like a second coat in unexpectedly cooler temperatures.

Since the scarf can be removed when the weather is too warm, it is a better alternative than putting on a second sweater that is difficult to take off on the go.

Gloves and hat for the twilight

The days are a little longer again.

But one shouldn't make the beginner's mistake every year and underestimate the twilight.

Therefore, to be on the safe side, always have a hat and gloves with you when the temperatures drop in the evening.

When it comes to beanies *, knitted models made of wool remain the most popular hats because, in addition to the fashionable hipster factor, the material is also durable, breathable and yet warm.

When it comes to gloves, you should wear light leather gloves without a thick inner lining in spring.

More than the winter models, these convey a bit of nonchalance all year round.

So nonchalant that for a moment you could almost seem as if the joy of the beautiful weather was something everyday.
