Desert dust suspended in the air is much less visible in Lyon than on February 6 when residents woke up under a yellow-orange sky.

But the consequences on air quality are more important.

Since Thursday, the Lyon basin has been placed in red vigilance against fine particle pollution by the authorities, like most of the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region.

🔴 Due to the persistence of the episode of #pollution to fine particles, the prefect P.MAILHOS is introducing a set of measures (alert level N2) in the # Rhône department: transport, agriculture, industry, construction and private individuals

A situation due to the massive arrival this week of dust from the Sahara, the dispersion of which is made difficult by the high pressure weather conditions of recent days, marked by strong sunshine, heat and the absence of wind.

“The desert dust episode persists.

The concentrations are very high throughout the region.

Almost all areas go to red level due to a risk of persistence for tomorrow, ”Atmo Auvergne Rhône-Alpes indicated Thursday, not foreseeing any improvements on Friday.

Free resident parking

To limit, in this context, the emissions of pollutants, the prefecture decided to introduce differentiated traffic this Friday.

Only vehicles with the Crit'Air 0, 1 and 2 sticker are authorized to drive in a perimeter covering a large part of Lyon, Villeurbanne and Caluire-et-Cuire.

Major axes are excluded from this differentiated traffic area.

To encourage Lyonnais to move on foot or by TCL, the town hall of Lyon has also announced free resident parking, during this episode of pollution and traffic restrictions.
