In 2020, fans of historical reconstructions were unable to attend, due to health measures linked to the Covid-19 epidemic, one of the most anticipated events of the year: the Great Roman Games, at Nîmes (Gard).

The town had first bet on a postponement in May, "if sanitary conditions allow".

Finally, they were reprogrammed on October 8, 9 and 10, in the arenas.

It will be dedicated to Julius Caesar, and his conquest of Rome.

“The shows are based on solid scientific and historical foundations,” indicates the organizer of the Great Roman Games, Culturespaces.

The reenactors make their costumes with materials identical to those used in Antiquity and work with historians.

Conferences, workshops and parades

In addition to the show, conferences, workshops, markets, guided tours and parades will also take place in Nîmes city center.

The event, which brings together hundreds of reenactors from all over Europe, was imagined in 2009, in reference to the passage, in Nîmes, in 122 AD, of the emperor Hadrian.

On this occasion, he had offered the inhabitants games, with, in particular, gladiatorial fights and chariot races.
