Deputy for the North, Paul Christophe, from the Agir! Group, believes Thursday on Europe 1 that confinement during the next two weekends, announced the day before by the Minister of Health Olivier Véran, in the Dunkirk region was the right solution to take, especially as the neighboring territories begin to be impacted.

INTERVIEW

After Nice and its region, Dunkirk and its region.

Like much of the Côte d'Azur, the Dunkirk, particularly hit by the coronavirus epidemic, will undergo confinement at least during the next two weekends.

It was Olivier Véran, the Minister of Health, traveling in the municipality of the North, who announced it on Wednesday.

A measure well received by local elected officials, who have been calling for a tightening of restrictions for several days.

Especially since the neighboring territories are starting to be impacted.

"We are focusing on Dunkirk, but the dispersion continues", points Thursday to Europe 1 Paul Christophe, deputy of the 14th district of the North, which includes Dunkirk-East on its territory.

"It is the territory of Flanders, just below, and we see that the figures are starting to deteriorate on the territory still below", specifies the elected official, member of the Agir group!

to the Assembly.

"However, we must absolutely avoid the saturation of other hospitals. Because when the wave will reach other territories, if it ever reaches them, we will have a really complex situation."

If Paul Christophe thus warns, it is because the hospitals of Dunkirk are saturated and therefore forced to evacuate patients.

"Yesterday (Wednesday), there were still three patients transferred. We are practically at 80 patients transferred since February," says the deputy.

"It is not with joy of heart that we take such a measure and assume it"

Paul Christophe was alongside Olivier Véran during the visit of the Minister of Health to the Dunkirk hospital center.

He was thus able to understand the urgency of the situation.

"Today, we have 1% of population contamination per week on the territory, it is not neutral. We have admissions to the emergency department which lead to 40% of hospitalization, which was not not the case either during the first waves ", details the elected.

"We have an average hospitalized population that has fallen by 7 years and we have absolutely saturated care services. Often, we focus on the numbers in intensive care: there is not only intensive care, there are also intensive care services, Covid care services. "

A situation that really left no other choice than a re-containment.

"It is certain that it is not out of cheerfulness that we take such a measure and that we assume it", sighs Paul Christophe.

"But the latest figures and the situation of exhaustion of the nursing staff were convincing. It was a question of acting responsibly towards the local populations."
